Vigil Schola Cantorum

The St. Mark the Evangelist Vigil Schola Cantorum is a SATB ensemble of semi-professional singers who sing at the 4:00 p.m. vigil mass on Saturdays. The mainstay of the Schola repertoire is a cappella sacred music, especially Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony by such composers as Byrd, Tallis, Palestrina, Victoria, di Lasso, Sheppard, Taverner, Gibbons, and Purcell. Schola masses celebrate the earliest traditions of choral singing in the Roman Catholic Church and strive to preserve the important heritage of chant in the liturgy. Membership in the new Schola is by invitation.
