Isaiah: The Fifth Gospel---By any measure the book of Isaiah is among the world’s greatest works of religious literature. It probes the mystery of a people’s life with God. The early church used the poetic songs of Isaiah’s Suffering Servant to interpret the passion and death of Jesus. Readings from the prophet Isaiah are proclaimed during Advent, Christmas, and Holy Week because of the book’s striking messages of both challenge and hope. Even the book of Revelation echoes the prophet Isaiah with images of a new heaven and a new earth, and the beauty of the heavenly Jerusalem.

“But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me. Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you. See, upon the palms of my hands I have engraved you” (Isaiah 49: 14-16).

Fall 2022 Women’s Bible Study: Conversing with God Using the Psalms
Want to learn more about the Church’s Prayerbook, the Psalms? Please join us as we use Sister Irene Nowell’s popular book, Pleading, Cursing, Praising: Conversing with God Through the Psalms. Sister Irene maintains that the psalms teach us to tell our story, to cry out our pain, and to give praise to God. They also teach us to listen - to the voice of God, the voice of Christ, the voices of the people around us, and the voice of all creation. This book includes questions and exercises for personal reflection, brief prayers for praying along the way, and suggestions for composing one's own psalm-prayers. It promises to enrich the spiritual life of everyone who reads it.
The women’s group will meet on Tuesdays at 10:00 -11:30 am in the Conference Room, from Sept 6-Nov 1. The group is limited to 20 participants.
Please register by emailing Sr Madeline at SrMadeline@stmarkrc.org or calling her at 205-980-1810, ext. 3. Books will be ordered with registration. Registration deadline is August 8.
